GLYNN Hurst believes the Shakers can emulate his former club Stockport and climb out of League Two.

The Shakers striker, who seems set to sign a new contract with the club, has been impressed by the job done so far by manager Alan Knill since he arrived in February.

Bury climbed from a position just above the relegation zone to mid-table safety in little over three months - leading some pundits to suggest they could be dark horses for promotion next season. Hereford boss Graham Turner, writing in a column for the play-off final programme, tipped Knill's side to follow his own club into League One.

And Hurst also believes the positive vibes gleaned from a successful finish to the last campaign can continue into the new season.

Hurst said: "It wasn't just that we were winning games, it was how we were winning them.

"Almost from the minute the gaffer came in, we were bossing even the top teams.

"Stockport were lucky to beat us and they went on to get promoted. There isn't a big gap between them and us in terms of quality. If we carry on doing what we are doing I have got no doubt we can be successful."

The experienced striker is keen to resolve his own contract as soon as possible.

"I'd like to stay as long as I can, even if it is one year at a time," he added. " I've said before that I would be a fool not to want to be a part of this club next season. I genuinely believe we are going places."
