Bury reject offer for midfield star

BURY have turned down a cash offer for winger Nicky Adams.

With the Welsh-under-21 international's contract ending on Tuesday and his future looking increasingly likely to lie away from Gigg Lane, Bury are preparing themselves for a fight for compensation.

Rochdale have been widely linked with Adams since January when they had a £30,000 bid turned down, but the club were keeping tight-lipped about whether they had made a second attempt to sign the 21-year-old.

"We have had an offer from another club but we found it totally unacceptable," said club director Ian Harrop.

"We have indicated to the player that we want to keep him and have made what we think is an excellent offer.

"What is more, we have promised that we would not stand in his way if the opportunity to progress his career at a higher level came about."

Adams came through the youth ranks after being initially trained by Bolton Wanderers, making his debut in 2005.

During his time with the Shakers he has made 93 appearances and scored 15 goals, along with two under-21 caps with Wales.

And it is for that reason that Bury are confident that should Adams decide to leave the club, any fee set by tribunal would be much more to their liking.

"If the club in question wish to take the matter to tribunal, then that is our prerogative," Harrop added.

"We have indicated how much we think the club would be looking at, and it is far in excess of what they have offered.

"But as of Wednesday afternoon, we have not heard back from them."
