This photo might be regarded as just another day looking down Oxford Street in Bolton in times gone by.
But actually, it records an historic moment in the life of the town centre. For these vehicles were among the last to be allowed on to Oxford Street from Deansgate before the pedestrianisation of the town centre around Victoria Square came into effect in March that year.
It’s interesting to see the various shops and businesses from the time including the Co-op and Whitaker’s on the right of Oxford Street and Jackson’s tailors on the corner where Caffe Nero can now be found.
