OUTGOING president Tina Brown has handed over the chain of office to Beryl Thomas — new president of the Inner Wheel Club of Tottington and Bury West.

Mrs Brown closed her year in office by handing over cheques to her chosen charities — £1,000 to Christie Hospital and £750 to Bury Hospice.

She said: “I really enjoyed the last 12 months. After losing my husband to cancer it was good to be able to use my position as club president to raise some money for Christie Hospital, where the staff did so much for him.”

New president Beryl Thomas, of New Hall Road, Bury, has chosen the North West Air Ambulance as her charity for the year. It is her second time in office at the Tottington and Bury West club. She has also previously been president of Rochdale and the defunct Rochdale 86 Inner Wheel clubs.

She said: “It’s always a pleasure to be president. I’ve received a lot of happiness from my membership of Inner Wheel so I enjoy being able to promote the club and its work.”
