RADCLIFFE-based MEP Gary Titley has won the help of European Union officials in his campaign for cigarette packet warnings.
He maintains that warnings on packets have a vital role to play in encouraging people to quit.
Figures out this month — from a survey funded by Cancer Reasearch UK — also reveal more than 400,000 smokers have given up since the introduction of the smoking ban in public places one year ago.
Said Mr Titley: “I have taken my campaign to alert the public to the links between smoking and blindness to the European Commission and asked them to launch a review as a matter of urgency.
“They have now assured me they are revising cigarette packet warnings and giving blindness warnings priority consideration. This is fantastic news.”
