A man has been arrested after about 400 cannabis plants were discovered at a house in Prestwich.

Police were called to the property in Park Road yesterday afternoon after workmen discovered the cannabis growing inside. The workmen had been contracted to do work at the house but when they arrived they had been chased away by a man. Before they left however, they saw the plants. They then called police.

A short time later, officers arrested a man aged in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis. He remains in custody for questioning.

Inspector Mark Kenny from the local area team said: "This is a brilliant example of the police and the local community working together to combat people who grow cannabis and make massive profits out of doing so. I'd like to thank the workmen who helped us today - they have played a key role in this latest seizure. With continued cooperation we will keep up the successes we're having in targeting people who grow drugs on this scale."
