POLICE are investigating a suspected arson attack on a Bury flat.
A crime scene has been set up at the property in Bolton Road following the blaze this morning.
Firefighters attended the Claims Direct shop at about 3.15 after arsonists smashed a window to get in to the flat upstairs.
It is believed a liquid accelerant was used to start two separate fires in the property.
Steve Wilcock, watch commander at Bury fire station, said: “When we arrived the flat was heavily smoked logged but we had to secure it with as little damage as possible because it had become a crime scene. We spent about an hour tackling the fire.
“There were two seats of fire and in one of the rooms there were no combustibles, which is a solid indicator of arson.”
A fire dog was sent to the scene at about 9am as part of an investigation by Greater Manchester Police and the Fire Investigation Team.
Firefighters used four breathing apparatus and a thermal image camera.
