INDIE stars Elbow have backed the work of an anti-poverty group by donating signed records for an online auction.
The five-piece band, who originated in Whitefield in the early 1990s, have lent a hand to the Mines Advisory Group (MAG), which has organised the internet auction of music goodies.
Elbow have signed copies of rare records and CD singles from their Mercury Prize-winning album, The Seldom Seen Kid.
They are some of the 59 lots being auctioned off in aid of MAG, which is currently working in 16 countries worldwide to help communities deal with the effects of war. Elbow frontman Guy Garvey is urging people to log on to the online auction.
He said: “You can get your mitts on loads of exclusive musical memorabilia without even having to leave your comfy chair.
“So get bidding and don’t be cheap, think of the Christmas karma.
“You’ll be supporting an amazing cause.”
Other artists contributing include Radiohead, Paulo Nutini and The Stone Roses.
The auction began last Friday and ends at 6pm on Sunday.
Bids can be made via musicbeats mines.org
