work is well under way to build a new supermarket in Radcliffe.
An industrial clothing manufacturing business and the remains of a demolished repair garage were cleared from the site of the former Apex works earlier this year.
The site, in Water Street, is now a hive of activity as builders work to erect metal girders and construct a new single-storey building.
It will house a 4,000 sq ft Tesco Express supermarket, as well as a Subway restaurant and another shop.
There will also be landscaping and parking spaces for 21 cars and three bicycles.
A Tesco spokesman said: βAt the moment, the building is in the hands of the developer. Work is ongoing and only when work is complete will we take up a lease at the unit. We anticipate this will be in the 10th week of 2010 β roughly at the start of March.β
