Patrols stepped up after assault

Patrols have been stepped up after a man was assaulted during a disturbance in Bury.

At about 4pm on Sunday police were called to East Street following a report of fighting between two groups of young men.

Officers found a 20-year-old man had suffered head injuries in the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment.

He has since been discharged from hospital.

Two men, aged 51 and 24 and a 15-year-old boy, were arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding and have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Detective Inspector Lynne Vernon of Bury CID, said: "This is quite a nasty assault, but I want to reassure people that incidents like this are rare in Bury.

"We have arrested three people and we now have high visibility patrols in the area to help reassure residents.

"We now want to hear from anyone who saw how this man came to be injured to contact us."
