THE town will be alive with the sound of the Swiss mountains as part of a charity fundraiser.
Husband and wife duo Helen and Neil Grundy, from Tottington, are bringing the haunting call of the Alphorn horn to Bury to raise money for people living with life-threatening illness.
The professional French horn players, known as the Holcombe Duo, met at the Royal Manchester College of Music in 1968 and first discovered a love of the Alphorn when they visited Switzerland together in 1987.
It was 20 years later before they bought their own instruments and performed at the top of the Swiss Maennlichen mountain ridge with more than 100 players.
Now the couple are staging a concert in aid of Bury Hospice, featuring BBC philharmonic player Steven Callow, who will be accompanying them on the organ.
Mrs Grundy, aged 60, a brass teacher at Bury Grammar School, said: “We just felt we wanted to do something for the hospice because they do such a wonderful job.”
The concert takes place at Bury Parish Church on Friday, March 19, at 12.30pm. Tickets are £4, available by visiting the website at holcombe duo.co.uk or at the church.
