MODERN water pipelines are being laid in Radcliffe.
As part of a £1.7 million project, ageing water mains in Blackburn Street are being replaced.
work started last week in the pedestrianised area between Deansgate and Railway Street and is due to be completed shortly. It will then continue along Blackburn Street towards the junction with Bowker Street, which will take around six weeks.
Blackburn Street will remain open during the work, but side streets may need to be closed at times.
Iain Harris, project manager for United Utilities, said: “This is the only way we can improve water supplies for 1,500 homes and businesses in Radcliffe.
“We are replacing around 15km of old Victorian cast iron water mains with modern plastic pipework — which will mean cleaner water and fewer leaks.”
