Residents join forces to fight housing plan on their doorstep

A COMMUNITY has joined forces to fight plans to build houses at the end of their street.

The owners of Black Moss Farm, in Black Moss Court, Radcliffe, want to demolish two large barns and build a block of seven terraced houses.

But their plans have been met with opposition from people living nearby.

A petition with 56 signatures and 11 letters of objection has been submitted to Bury Council’s planning department.

Residents are worried about the damage the planned development will have on the quiet area, particularly the increase in traffic and an increased potential for road accidents. Other concerns include the size of the scheme, the location of bin collections, and that part of the development is on green belt land.

Leading campaigner Sully Barber, of Black Moss Court, said: “One of our main concerns is the increased traffic and risk of accidents.

“The council has a policy in force that proactively looks to prevent accidents. Accepting these plans would contradict that policy. If this plan goes ahead, our properties will be devalued and there will be no alternative other than to move home.”

Sarah Michelson, of Bolton Road, said: “We don’t need any more houses. There are already enough empty properties in the area.

“We won’t have any sunlight in our garden. We have such a nice view and that is why we came here. When we go outside, the garden will be overlooked and rubbish will be just behind our fence.”

David Ashworth, also of Bolton Road, said: “It’s a nightmare getting out now with people parking outside the chip shop. I am concerned that there will be a serious accident in the street.”

The planning control committee voted to defer the decision for a site visit.
