BURY may not have as many as the “4,000 holes in Blackburn, Lancashire,” as immortalised in the famous song by The Beatles.
But borough-wide, there were 904 carriageway and 64 footway potholes reported by the public in the year up to March. Currently, however, Bury Council say it has not been possible to analyse the figures to show the number filled in.
The statistics were disclosed at last night’s full council meeting.
Executive member for environment and transport, Councillor Dorothy Gunther said that recently a further £100,000 was allocated to the repair of potholes.
She also disclosed that £200,000 from bridge maintenance has been reallocated to highways maintenance to help overcome damage caused by the recent severe winter weather.
