YOUNG Bury defender Tom Kennedy needs just four goals to surpass his dad - the former Liverpool and England left-back Alan Kennedy.
Kennedy Jnr got off the mark for the Shakers with a penalty against Boston United on Saturday, and has already got his father's meagre tally of five in over 400 appearances for the Reds in his sights.
He said: "I don't miss penalties in training so I decided that I was going to have a go and when the ref gave the penalty, I thought - good, I'm going to take it.
"The only bad thing about it was that my dad comes to every game and hadn't missed a game I've played. He's gone away this week and missed it. He'll be gutted to miss my first goal
"I only need another four goals to catch the old man up now."
Shakers boss Graham Barrow said he believed his side's luck could be about to change following a battling show against Boston, starting from the penalty spot.
"It's come down to Tom as the next in line. He strikes a good ball and I'm pleased for him to get off the mark."
