SUNNYBANK Primary school is well and truly in the frame after winning a top environmentally-inspired photographic contest.

For the school in Hathaway Road has emerged as the winner of the “My Recycling Foto” competition.

Pupils uploaded recycling-related photographs for the competition run by Recycle for Greater Manchester, a partnership between the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority and Viridor Laing (Greater Manchester) Ltd.

The aim was to publicise the updated website which offers residents advice on recycling, waste prevention and waste education.

The winning photograph features five pupils from Sunnybank showing how they have re-used plastic bottles in craft exercises.

During a school assembly, Bury councillors Denise Bigg and Dorothy Gunther, along with waste education officer Denise Catley, presented the school with a digital camera and a framed photograph of their winning image.

In addition, they are being provided with a free class trip to a local waste education centre.

Headteacher Mr Michael Green said: “Understanding recycling and waste is an important part of growing up and the children really enjoyed thinking of different ways to express how they ‘Recycle for Greater Manchester’.”
