A POPULAR town centre nightclub has introduced tougher admittance rules.
In March, Bury Council’s licensing committee reduced the opening hours of the Blue Lounge on The Rock.
Bury Police had made a request for the venue to be closed after there were 24 criminal incidents in 12 months on the premises.
Since then Victoria Spanner has taken over as manager and taken steps to improve the nighbclub’s image.
She has installed a new CCTV system, employed new doorstaff and introduced a smarter dress code at weekends.
Last week, Blue Lounge promoter Ian Smith sent out a message to club regulars via social networking website Facebook that anyone looking under 25 is required to show proof that they are over 18.
Miss Spanner said: “We had a follow-up meeting with the council a couple of weeks ago and they said that the number of incidents reported connected with the Blue Lounge had significantly reduced.
“That’s a direct result of the measures we have taken. Overall, customers think that the bar is being run much better and they are more comfortable in the club.
“Asking people to prove their identity will add to that feeling of comfort.
“We will continue to support the police.”
