ROYAL wedding fever has hit Bury as revellers hang out the bunting and fly the flag to celebrate.

Parties are being held in streets, schools, pubs and community centres to mark the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Bury Council has granted licences for 15 street parties across the borough.

Among them is Rhine Close in Tottington, where residents will celebrate the wedding tomorrow with a barbecue, baking competition, music and singing by Chris Maher, fancy dress, face painting, crafts and an Easter egg hunt.

Organiser, Annette Alderson, said: “We are a small community and have just formed a Friends of Rhine Close group to get to know our neighbours better.

“This is our first community get together and we decided that the royal wedding was a good start.”

There will be party fun starting today at Tower View Nursery, in Springside View, Brandlesholme, with staff and children dressing in red, white and blue, with two children appearing as the bride and groom for their own “wedding”.

Another nursery celebrating is Mary Kelly’s Rascals, in Ainsworth Road, Radcliffe, where children will take the roles of princes and princesses during their party tomorrow.

First Steps Nursery, in Orrell Road, Bury, will hold a party in conjunction with Bury FC In The Community and residents at Fusilier Court sheltered housing scheme, in Chislehurst Close, Bury, will be party games and a buffet.

More than 40 people will pack into St Philip’s Community Centre, in Higher Dean Street, Radcliffe, to watch the royal wedding on a big screen and drink a toast to the couple.

Well-wishers can toast the happy couple at a coffee morning from 10am to noon on Saturday at St Paul’s Church, in Bridge Street, Ramsbottom. There will be home-made food, a book sale, bric-a-brac stall and greetings cards. Admission is free.
