A WELL-known doctor who treated generations of Bury families has died at the age of 78.
Dr Peter Kernohan spent 40 years working as a GP in Radcliffe after taking over the practice from his father, Dr Robert Kernohan, a former Mayor of Radcliffe.
He specialised in obstetrics and often delivered babies at Bealey Maternity Hospital in Dumers Lane.
Born and bred in Radcliffe, Dr Kernohan dreamed of being a doctor from an early age, inspired by seeing his father's practice in the family home.
He died on Wednesday December 21 at Highfield Hall Nursing Home in Haslingden after an illness.
A funeral will be held at 1pm tomorrow at Bury Parish Church followed by a service at East Lancashire Crematorium in Radcliffe.
