Parents are being encouraged to look out for signs of bronchiolitis in babies and toddlers throughout the remaining winter months.
It is a common infection that affects breathing, causing the small airways in the lungs to become infected and inflamed.
The Children’s Community Nursing Team in Bury is trained to treat youngsters with bronchiolitis at home so the child does not have to go to hospital.
“This is the time of year when NHS waiting rooms are busy with babies and children suffering from bronchiolitis, flu and other winter illnesses,” said Sonia Petch, team co-ordinator for the nursing team. With regular monitoring and enough fluids, the majority will recover in a couple of weeks.
