HARD working underdogs AFC Bury were denied a place in the semi-finals of the Gilgryst Cup when they went down 3-1 at home to high flying Manchester League Premier Division rivals AVRO.
AFC defended well, aiming to hit AVRO on the break, and with rookie full-back Danny Moult and keeper Gavin Campbell impressing, they held out until going behind on the hour. The visitors doubled their lead from the penalty spot but Tino Blake pulled a goal back to set up a thrilling finale in which the Bury, going all out for the equaliser, conceded a third in the dying moments.
AFC Bury return to league action on Saturday at Old Alts.
