RESIDENTS are being encouraged to have their say on the running of out-of-hours GP service BARDOC.
It has recently changed from a co-operative led by GPs to a community benefit society, which will be run by GPs, employees and members of the community.
BARDOC — Bury And Rochdale Doctors On Call — is looking for more people to get involved so the membership reflects the people it serves.
There are also voluntary roles available on the council of governors, whose responsibilities include appointing the chairman and deciding remuneration and allowances.
Rukhansa Haq, community engagement worker for BARDOC, spoke about the changes at last Wednesday’s meeting of Radcliffe township forum.
She said: “We would really like people to become involved in the organisation. It is important that we get involvement from the community.”
BARDOC provides services outside GPs’ working hours for patients in Bury, Rochdale, Middleton and Heywood, and dealt with 5,578 calls between last October and December. Their services range from providing medication advice and prescriptions to responding in a crisis.
