‘Township Plan’ to help shape future

AMBITIOUS plans to bring communities tog- ether and improve each part of the borough have been put in place.

All six of the borough’s township forums have now agreed a “Township Plan”, which sets out local priorities for each area, and gives local people a chance to play a key role in achieving better services, and an improved quality of life.

Among the many projects included in the plans are: work to tackle alcohol- related anti-social behaviour; initiatives to promote fitness and exercise opportunities, and impr-ove the health and well-being of local residents; work to promote employment opportunities for young people; and to create positive activities for young people.

Township forums, which are made up of councillors from the area and community representatives, are public meetings held up to six times a year at local venues, where people are encouraged to take part.

Cllr Sandra Walmsley, Bury Council cabinet mem- ber for community development, said: “These plans have been drawn up with local people in mind, who are best placed to decide what matters in their area, and the best ways to go about improving it.

“They are a real opportunity for residents to get involved, and shape their local area.”

The next round of town- ship forum meetings are: l Radcliffe: Thursday, November 8, at 6pm, Radcliffe Civic Suite l Prestwich: Wednesday, November 14, at 6.30pm, Longfield Suite l Ramsbottom, Tottington and North Manor: Wednesday, November 14, at 7pm, Tottington Methodist Church l Whitefield and Unsworth: Tuesday, November 20, at 1pm, Elms Community Centre.
