Bankfield Residential Home in Bury celebrated its landmark 25th anniversary by throwing open its doors to the public.

Past and current family members joined residents and staff to mark the Gigg Lane home’s silver jubilee with a buffet and food tasting.

Home co-ordinator Donna Browne said: “It was a lovely day and a lot of people turned up to the event. We also had photographs of the activities we do here.”

Bankfield opened in 1989, adapted from a historical farmhouse, and has remained under the ownership of David and Binnie Hopkins.

The manager was then Bernadette Howley and she has been involved in helping to run the home ever since, returning as full-time manager in 2011, having spent a period of time in a supervisory role for the Bankfield Group.

The home was initially registered for 25 beds, but within a few years, an extension was built to expand the home to its current size of 47.

During the last 12 months, extensive building work has been undertaken to increase the size of the dining, lounge and toilet areas to provide residents with more space and better facilities.
