CROWDS flocked to The Rock as the countdown to Christmas began with the switch-on of the centre's festive lights.

And the man himself, Father Christmas, took centre stage at the event, which was held in association with Key 103.

Radio DJ Darren Proctor hosted fun-filled festivities with an evening jam-packed with family entertainment, including singing and dancing, a fashion show and prize draw. Guests also included Miss Bury, Chelsea Edgar.

Visitors had the chance to scoop a £1,000 prize in a Win Your Christmas competition while Debenhams and Open showcased the latest fashion looks for the festive season.

There was a live performance from teenage heartthrob Bailey McConnell, the young singer-songwriter who rose to fame on this year's Britain's Got Talent TV show.

Others who entertained the crowds embraced a host of North West acts, including Cian Gleeson, Active Dance, Jess Kemp, The Ambition and the winners of Key 103’s Girlband competition, The Piccadilly’s.

The Key 103 street team was on hand at The Rock, giving out goody bags and chocolate lollies as part of last Thursday's bumper list of attractions.

A number of lucky audience members were selected at random with live draws every 15 minutes on a giant digital screen, with prizes including jewellery and various shopping vouchers.

Linzi Atkinson, marketing and tenant liaison manager with The Rock, said: "It was an excellent evening and really successful. I'd say the event was one of the best we've ever had here. A lot of people attended and we had a good mix of entertainment. including local talent and Bailey."
