NO wonder Carol Morris is dancing for joy.

For sure-footed Carol triumphed after a tense dance-off at the Affetside Strictly Come Dancing competition.

It was the culmination of six weeks of one-hour lessons, and the final event, held at Affetside Chapel, saw 11 adults take part.

They each had the choice to dance with their own partner or with one of the more advanced dancers from the Carole Williams dancing school in Ramsbottom, referred to as the "professionals."

They danced the social fox trot and the waltz and were judged on their top line, posture, grace, elegance and footwork,

The delighted winner of the Glitter Ball trophy was Carol Morris, from Affetside, selected for an exceptionally graceful waltz.

Councillor Yvonne Wright presented Mrs Morris with the coveted trophy and each dancer was given a certificate in recognition of their performance, which also included the most improved dancer

Participants mainly came from Affetside but locals also welcomed dancers from Harwood and Ainsworth.

Joanne Wilcock, one of the event organisers, said: "Everyone commented on how much fun and enjoyment they had got from the dance classes. Several people said they were going to continue to attend Carol Williams classes."
