A CAST of 90 children wowed crowds with a sell-out performance of a thoroughly modern version of The Wizard of Oz.

Youngsters aged three to 16, from across Bury and Bolton, took part in the Theatre Works production performed on November 2 at The Met in Bury.

The iconic story was given a new ending in an original script by Theatre Works director Emma Matthews and featured songs from Oasis, Motley Crue, Avicii and musical The Wiz.

Little Lever-born Emma, an actress who starred as Vicki in Prisoner’s Wives, launched Theatre Works last year with fellow actress and dancer Lauren Bateman.

Emma said: “It was a very modern production using multi-media film and projection. We had news reports about local missing girl Dorothy Gale.

“We even had a few familiar faces! Game of Thrones actor John Bradley, the cast of Emmerdale, model Daisy Lowe and even Davina McCall made appearances making a plea for missing Dorothy Gale to come home.

“The show was well received, especially the twist ending and the surprise celebrity appearances.”

Theatre Works students have now started work on their Christmas production, which will be performed on December 23 at Radcliffe Civic Suite.

The drama school holds classes on Saturdays at Bury Parish Church hall; on Mondays and Fridays in Little Lever; and Wednesdays in Astley Bridge.

New schools are scheduled to open soon in Radcliffe, Bolton and Brieghtmet and Theatre Works is open to anyone aged four to 16 interested in acting, dancing and singing.
