BURY'S Mayor gave delighted revellers a "ticket to ride" when she officially opened the town's Charter Fair.

Cllr Michelle Wiseman, accompanied by her mayoress daughter, Danielle, attended the half-term event at the Foundry Street car park on Valentine's Day last Saturday (Feb 14).

She handed out free ride tickets to local families and enjoyed the company of participating showmen for around 90 minutes.

The mayor and her daughter joined in the fun by going on the dodgems, but decided to stand aside when it came to sampling some of the more daring rides such as the Mad Max and Extreme. The funfair includes a wide variety of attractions such as the waltzer, twister, fun house and kiddie caterpillar coaster.

The event, which is staged in Bury twice a year by royal charter, originally took place in March and September. But the spring fixture was moved to February three years ago to take advantage of the school holidays.

It is organised by The Showmen's Guild of Great Britain, which has its North West regional headquarters in the Bury.

The fair continues until Sunday (Feb 22) and is open daily from noon to 9pm.
