A PENSIONER was taken to hospital after she was run over by a parcel delivery van near Bury Market.

Fire crews and the ambulance service were called to the market on Tuesday at about 1pm.

A woman in her 80s was found by firefighters underneath the van which had hit her while reversing.

She was at the market with her daughter, who was also knocked to the floor by the truck, but was unhurt.

The elderly woman, who used a walking frame, was conscious and breathing but appeared to have suffered internal injuries, according to a fire service spokesman.

She was taken to North Manchester General Hospital for treatment.

The spokesman said: “Crews from Bury and Whitefield were called to the incident near the market.

“Trauma technicians dealt with the injured lady at the scene.

“She was in her 80s and was on the floor underneath the vehicle when we arrived.”
