A 24-hour "danceathon" is being staged in Radcliffe this weekend to raise money for a Bury boy diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The event is being organised by Active Dance in support of the Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour charity.

Joshua's mum, Dawn Fidler, said all the proceeds from the event will go towards helping the family of 10-year-old Stewart Sheridan, who has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour.

Active Dance, which has more than 700 members, is holding the danceathon to celebrate the opening of its second dance studio which is located at a unit on the Bradley Fold trading estate in Radcliffe Moor Road.

The venue will stage the 24-hour event beginning on Saturday (Feb 28) at 9am. Active Dance already runs a popular dance studio in Walshaw Road, Bury, near to where Joshua lived with his mum before his death in November.

Throughout the day-long event, there will be all different types of dancing, including a "dad's hour," disco, raffles and entertainment. Everyone is welcome to come along to join in, say Active Dance organisers, who are also looking for local businesses to sponsor each hour of the event for £50 and any raffle prize donations.

Stewart Sheridan is currently being treated in Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. The youngster, who lives in Limefield, is a year five pupil at Fairfield Primary School from where he was sent home on February 2 because he was feeling ill.

Despite his father, Michael, initially being told he was suffering from a virus, a subsequent CT scan revealed Stewart had a tumour on his brain.

Dawn added: "It's amazing to be able to help another family in Bury at such a vital time though Josh's charity. We will do everything we can to help and support them."
