IT may not equal the likes of the haute couture "hotspots" of Milan or London, but Bury can certainly prove it has a genuine "passion for fashion" thanks to a successful fundraising event.

A vintage fashion show, featuring donated clothes, has raised more than £2,800 for the Bury Society for Blind and Partially Sighted People.

The event was organised by councillor Yvonne Wright and staged at Bury's Elton Liberal Club in New George Street.

The proceeds represented a record amount for the Blind Society in terms of money generated from a single fundraiser.

A total of 10 women, including two with a visual impairment, Tracey Marno and Gill Currie, modelled the clothing.

Cllr Wright, who is a trustee with the Bury Society for Blind and Partially Sighted People, said: "This is the second vintage fashion show I have arranged and it was worth all the hours of preparation.

"It was enjoyed by all and raised more than £2,800. All monies raised are spent wisely to enhance the lives of those in our town with a visual impairment".
