POTENTIAL owners are being urged to give rescue dog Ruchy the chance of a loving home.

The loveable Staffordshire bull terrier was rescued by the RSPCA in February and brought to live in kennels at the Bury, Oldham and District branch.

But Ruchy has struggled to cope with the transition from a home to a kennel, new routines, and the loss of his owner.

Lisa Walsh, deputy animal centre manager at the branch, said: “All animals that come into our care undergo a 10-day assessment. We soon identified that Ruchy was struggling to adapt to kennel environment and it was clear that we needed to act quick in order to help him.

“Staff members have been working tirelessly with Ruchy to help him cope with kennel life and alleviate his stress levels.

“However, no matter how much time and effort the staff put into helping Ruchy, we cannot provide him with the most important thing he needs right now, a home environment and companionship.”

Staff at the branch began a process of rehabilitation and Ruchy was bought a Thunder Jacket which helps him feel safe and secure and when sitting outside on the grass.

He has also been introduced to walks and staff members have been building up the distance over time.

Ruchy’s stress and anxiety caused him to lose weight but this has now been maintained through feeding him a mixture of a dry food and pasta at different times throughout the day.

“Dogs are social animals and Ruchy craves human companionship, interaction and everything that goes with a loving home including peace and quiet to relax,” added Lisa.

“Kennels are never a suitable long term place for any of our canine friends to be.”

Anyone interested in owning Ruchy should contact the RSPCA Bury, Oldham and District branch on 0161 624 4725 between 11.30am and 3.30pm, apart from Wednesdays.
