Football supporters will be able to spread the news about their new stadium far and wide thanks to a Bury firm.

FC United of Manchester, who used to play at Gigg Lane in Bury, are set to move into their own 5,000-capacity stadium this month in Moston and Chesham-based Pennine Telecom has installed Wi-Fi, which fans will be able to use for free on their mobile phones.

The company is now installing wireless access points and specialist software at the £6.3 million ground to ensure the broadband service is ready in time for a prestigious friendly against Portuguese giants Benfica on May 29.

Pennine Telecom was founded in 1976 as a two-way radio repair service and has evolved since then into a business communication technology firm.

Managing director Andrew Roberts said: "I've long admired FC United's commitment to working within and supporting the local community, a commitment which we at Pennine Telecom share.

"From the early days when Bury's Gigg Lane was the club's home ground, we've watched on admiringly as they held on to their ideals while progressing through the leagues.

"It's an absolute privilege to be able to support FC United at Broadhurst Park and through them the wider community in Moston."

FC United general manager Andy Walsh said: "Good communications is vital for a supporter-owned club like ours and we wanted to give our fans — the club's owners — the opportunity to participate in real time on social media when they come to matches.”
