COUNCILLOR Michelle Wiseman, the outgoing Mayor of Bury, met with staff and patients at Fairfield Hospital during Dementia Awareness Week.

The hospital's 23-bed dementia friendly ward has been made less daunting for patients suffering from the disease through the use of lighting, floor coverings, artwork and signage.

Councillor Wiseman said: "I was very impressed with the high standard of care on ward 21. I feel that you should always put yourself in the position of the patient and think about whether you would be happy and comfortable to receive treatment in the place that you work.

"If the answer is yes, that is how you should deliver the service."
