RUGBY legend Mark Cueto tackled some paintwork instead of opponents when he put the gloss on a successful NatWest RugbyForce weekend event in Bury.

The former England player and Sale Sharks winger, who played his final game for the club last month, spent Sunday helping out Bury RFC at its base in Radcliffe Road.

He assisted in giving the club a facelift as part of the initiative aimed at making rugby clubs stronger businesses by improving and renovating their facilities with the support of volunteers and the community.

Bury RFC was one of six clubs selected to receive a visit from an England rugby star last weekend, having been one of 622 that originally registered to take part in the clean-up.

In addition to having a former England player at their club, Bury RFC will receive the "Ultimate Club Experience" this autumn to coincide with the Rugby World Cup.

It will receive a bumper pack of goodies including a new plasma TV screen, fun activities, events and materials to create a "little bit of Twickenham".

Speaking after his stint, Mark, the all-time Premiership try scorer, said: "We’ve all had a fantastic day here at Bury RFC. They have shown exactly what can be done when the local community all work together.

"Although we’ve only had the weekend to make improvements, we’ve achieved so much and the club looks fantastic. I’ve really enjoyed getting my hands dirty. I want to wish everyone at the club all the best for the coming season and beyond.”
