CARERS in the borough and the hard work they undertake to make a difference to the lives of others have been celebrated.

During National Carers Week, Bury Carers Centre held a number of events to coincide with the occasion, aiming to highlight and commend the selflessness and generosity of carers.

Ummrana Farooq, co-ordinator of the Silver Street centre, said: "We had lots of events running throughout the National Carers Week. Activities included a free pamper day where we had a variety of beauty treatments such as threading, henna, manicure, massage and refreshments.

"We also had outreach support at GP surgeries and a coach trip to Cleveleys, which was very much enjoyed due to the weather being very nice and sunny."

Other events included 10-pin bowling at Bury's AMF, afternoon tea party with a quiz and a fundraising event at The Mosses Centre.

Ummrana added: "We wish to thank all the small businesses who participated and contributed and made this week extra special. We raised more than £200 from raffle, tombola and kind donations which will be put towards activities for the carers who are registered with us."
