A LIMEFIELD youngster with an inoperable brain tumour will no longer have to rely on ambulances for transport thanks to a local dance group and The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity.

Bury-based Active Dance held a 24-hour dance-a-thon in February, raising funds for the charity would put towards helping Stewart Sheridan.

The donation has now been put towards the cost of a new wheelchair-adapted van, making it much easier for 10-year-old Stewart to take trips out with his family.

The Fairfield Primary School pupil was given the devastating diagnosis earlier this year, after initially being told that he had a virus.

His father Michael said: “In the few days we have had the van, it has already made a massive difference to Stewart.

“Thank you to SuperJosh and his charity and thank you Active Dance.”

The charity was set up by Joshua, who died last year at the age of 14, and his mother Dawn Fidler, with the aim of helping other families living with childhood brain tumours and post-operative complications.

Dawn said: “The reason Josh and I set up the charity is precisely to be able to help children and families like Stewart and the Sheridans. I am so pleased that the team from Active Dance brought their amazing fundraising talents to help us help Stewart.

“Thank you to everyone who danced, who sponsored, who donated, who organised or who ‘taxied’ dancers – we really appreciate your support.”

Nicola Cleaver, who runs Active Dance, said: “We are delighted we could help a local charity to help a local boy.

“Our pupils and teachers worked extremely hard to make the dance-a-thon the huge success if was and we are hoping to work with the #SuperJosh charity again in the near future. Supporting local charities is an integral part of Active Dance.”
