ART and photography took over in Brandlesholme for a weekend in place of the popular scarecrow competition.
The scarecrows were taking a rest so the ‘Draw, Paint, Click! Beautiful Brandlesholme’ competition could take centre stage, organised by Brandlesholme Community Festival Committee. Brandlesholme’s successful scarecrow festival will be back next year.
Children from local schools, together with adults, entered into the spirit with more than 100 entries in the drawing, painting and photography categories, on September 19.
Entries were displayed at Brandlesholme Methodist Church and judged by an independent panel of experts. There was also a public vote for the favourite entry.
Children's artwork and photographs are due to go on display at Summerseat Garden Centre and later in the year winning entries will be displayed at the MASA gallery, in Bolton Street, Bury.
Families enjoyed a hoedown at All Saints Church, in Hebburn Drive, to finish off the weekend with local group Fiddlesticks providing the music.
Committee member Mark Creswell said: “This is the third year we have organised something and the art competition was a change from last year’s scarecrow festival.
“But once again it was wonderful to see how everyone came together to make the event a great success. We would like to thank everyone who took part and supported the festival.”
