A COUPLE have been left "absolutely overwhelmed" by the efforts to help buy their son the specialised pram he desperately needs.

Rochelle and Timothy Followes, of Bowker Street, Ramsbottom, are hoping to raise £3,000 to buy 17-month-old Zachariah the special pram.

The youngster has global development delay, although his condition has not been fully diagnosed, and requires round-the-clock care.

A fun day has been organised, and will take place from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday November 28 at Ramsbottom Pentecostal Church in Carr Street.

Two charities have also been in touch to offer support and even a family holiday.

Rochelle said: “This is absolutely overwhelming. Never did we expect such a huge positive response from the first article in the Bury Times.

“Getting the funds we need will drastically change Zachariah's life, especially funding the buggy.”

Bridge Bentley Ramsbottom Trust has offered to support the fundraising mission and Trewan Sands Children’s Trust is working to organise the family a holiday.

Rochelle added: “I never thought we would get a response like this. We just thought we would let people know about our fun day to raise funds in the hope that people would turn up.

“We’re beyond overwhelmed; it's been a blessing of a week to us all.”

Global development delay means that Zachariah, who is severely visually impaired, needs extra support reaching milestones, and it can take a lot longer to reach them.

The family is also hoping enough money can be raised to buy therapy benches, physiotherapy wedges and crash mats for physiotherapy.

The fun day will include a bring and buy sale, face painting and a raffle draw, with coffee and cakes on sale.

People are being invited to bring items for the ‘bring and buy’ event.
