Man, 32, jailed after holiday 

A MAN has been jailed for four weeks for not telling the police he was going on holiday.

Paul Baker, aged 32, of South Bank Road, Bury, was obliged to let the authorities know if he was going abroad under the terms of the Sexual Offences Act as he is classed as a 'relevant offender'.

He admitted to Bury magistrates on January 25 that he failed to comply with a notification order and was jailed.

Drug-driver in one-year ban

A MAN who drove under the influence of cannabis has been banned from the road for a year.

Christopher Lyon, aged 27, of Dumers Lane, Bury, admitted to Bury magistrates on January 22 that he drove a Vauxhall Corsa in Bury Road, Radcliffe, on October 18 last year having taken cannabis.

He was also ordered to pay £333 in fines and court costs.

Shoplifter jailed for stealing meat

A SHOPLIFTER has been jailed for 14 weeks after breaching the terms of a suspended sentence.

Tommy Hogg, aged 37, of George Road, Ramsbottom, was given a suspended sentence in November for stealing meat and vodka from shops in Bury.

However, he went to Co-op shops in Bury on November 10, 17 and 19 and stole meat with a combined value of £210.

Hogg appeared before Bury magistrates on January 27 and admitted three counts of shoplifting and was jailed.

Thief in bid to steal two TVs

A THIEF tried to walk out of Asda in Bury carrying two televisions.

Mark Spiby, aged 29, of Tennyson Avenue, Bury, attempted to leave the Spring Street shop on February 25 last year with the TVs, worth a total of £520 but was caught.

He admitted the offence to Bury magistrates on January 27 and was jailed for 12 weeks and ordered to pay £260 compensation to Asda.

Driver banned for 17 months

A MAN has been banned from getting behind the wheel for 17 months after he was caught drink driving.

Craig Pearson, aged 29, of Victoria Lane, Whitefield, drove a red Peugeot 206 in Bury New Road, Prestwich, while over the legal alcohol limit.

He admitted the offence to Bury magistrates on January 22 and was also ordered to pay £585 in fines and court costs.

Man spared jail after trying to steal from funeral directors

A MAN has been spared jail after trying to steal — from a funeral parlour.

Scott Henderson, aged 37, of Anne Close, Burnley, threw a brick through the window of Cooperative Funeral Services in Bury New Road, Prestwich, on Halloween last year.

He admitted a charge of trespass with intent to steal to Bury magistrates on January 4 and also admitted attempting to break in to a branch of WH Smiths in Manchester on October 29 and a further charge of breaking into that shop and stealing scratch cards and e-cigarettes worth a total of £105 on October 30.

A sentencing hearing at Bury Magistrates Court on January 26, Henderson was given a 16-week prison sentence suspended for 18 months.

Breaches lead to 22-week jail term for man

A MAN who repeatedly breached court orders has been jailed for 22 weeks.

John Joseph Nugent, aged 28, of no fixed address, was told to stay away from a woman from Radcliffe under the terms of a restraining order but breached it last May.

He was back in court in November for failing to tell the authorities of his new address as required under the Sexual Offences Act and given a suspended sentence.

Nugent appeared before Bury magistrates on January 27 and was jailed after admitting breaching another court order by failing to register with police on December 22.

Magistrates said Nugent had deliberately failed to comply with court requirements.

Attacker told to behave

A MAN who attacked a woman has been ordered to stay out of trouble in the next year.

Nameer Hussain Shah, aged 28, of Buller Street, Shah, admitted to Bury magistrates on January 25 that he assaulted the woman in Bury on January 5.

He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £100 court costs.
