FASHION lovers turned out to raise close to £3,000 for a charity show of vintage clothing in Bury.

Age UK Bury held its Ladies Day fashion show on April 23 at the Jubilee Centre, in Mosley Avenue, with models taking to the runway in the best of clothing donations to Age UK Bury’s three shops.

The show began with a tribute to 1940s fashion and the models displayed clothing for work, leisure time, parties and weddings.

Yvonne Wright organised the event following years of running successful and popular fashion shows, raising thousands of pounds for local charities.

Andy Hazeldine, chief officer at Age UK Bury said: "I am extremely impressed with the time and enthusiasm that Yvonne gave to make this a very special day at the Jubilee Centre.

“Yvonne was supported by a great team of models and proved that our charity shops offer highly fashionable clothing at reasonable prices.

“We are extremely grateful to all who donate goods to our shops throughout the year.

“It does help us to keep afloat at this very difficult time for local charities.”

The Ladies Day raised £2,965.35 to go towards supporting services for older people in the borough.

Cllr Yvonne Wright said: “It was my pleasure to be invited to organise the fundraising vintage fashion show for a local charity.

“I wish to thank everyone who was involved with the event which was a great success at the fabulous Jubilee Centre.

“Bury residents are fortunate to have such an excellent facility provided by Age UK Bury with numerous daily activities available for those aged 50 and above.

“Generous Bury ladies donated lots of nearly new fashions and much was sold at the show, however the surplus is now for sale in the three shops in the borough in Ramsbottom, Prestwich and in Bury on the Rock.”
