A BRIDE-to-be was serenaded by a brass band – the night before her wedding.

Michelle Ashton organised for the Besses Boys Brass Band to perform her daughter’s favourite songs in an intimate concert outside her home in Simister Lane on Thursday, April 14.

Lucie Barker-Drennan, aged 25, married Ross Drennan the following day at St George’s Church in Simister, where she grew up.

Michelle said: “It was lovely to surprise Lucie the night before she got married. She has always loved the band since she was a little girl. We invited family down for the surprise so they sat in their parked cars along the road before getting out.

“It was a lovely evening and really caught her off-guard – it was a great evening before the wedding.”

Lucie added: "I had absolutely no idea, it was a complete shock.

"My mum loves surprises but I can usually suss her out beforehand, so the fact that she managed to keep this one quiet was absolutely brilliant.

"I had just had my eyelashes done, which was the last thing to do the day before the wedding, so we were going to relax with a glass of champagne or something.

"When I saw them coming around the street, I thought it must be something to do with the pub next door.

"Loads of people came out from the village to see our little concert, so it was a really lovely night for all of us."

Band manager, Paul Garrett, said: “We were asked to surprise the bride the night before she got married.

“We played Marry You by Bruno Mars and You Raise Me Up by Westlife which is one of Lucy's all-time favourites. It brought her to tears. Villagers in Simister came out of their houses to watch and the band received a fabulous round of applause.”
