SHE reduced Tom Jones to tears with her voice — yet national star Sally Barker still made time to appear at Bury Songwriters’ Circle.

The singer who famously made judge, Tom Jones cry on BBC 1’s The Voice in 2014, sang at Bury Songwriters’ Circle in April.

Since her success on The Voice brought her to national attention, Sally has been busy touring with folk legends Fotheringay and fitting in numerous solo shows.

Bury Songwriters Circle, based at Walshaw Sports Club, in Sycamore Road, Tottington, also welcomed Henry Priestman, the renowned songwriter of triple-platinum 80s band The Christians.

Organiser Yvonne Reynolds-Young said: “We’d seen Sally on TV and on YouTube, but nothing can prepare you for the power and beauty of her voice.

“The big surprise was the strength and quality of her songwriting, which was top notch.”

The event was packed with an audience of musicians, including folk music luminary Bill Leader, plus a substantial turnout of Sally’s fans.

Sally said: “Singing in front of an audience without the safety of a microphone and relying only my own material was slightly scary, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

“So much so that in future, I’ll have the confidence to perform sets comprised solely of my own songs.”

Two weeks later, Henry Priestman was in the chair, together with ‘Loved up Les’ Glover, his regular tour mate.

Mrs Reynolds-Young added: “It was a brace of major coups for Bury Songwriters Circle.”
