IT was Bandemonium in Bury – when thousands turned out for a celebration of music.

Crowds took to various locations to enjoy some of the musical talent on display for the annual event.

Bandemonium was set up four years ago to give people the opportunity to enjoy free music while they shop and to encourage people to come in to the town centre.

The festivities took place all over Bury including Kay Gardens, The Rock and East Lancashire Railway Station.

Organiser Andrew Taylor said the event had been a huge hit.

He said: "It was a great success with thousands of people enjoying the music of the various bands which took part.

"It gets better and better each year. And it's a great opportunity to get people in to Bury to enjoy some free entertainment on a Saturday."

In Kay Gardens, visitors were tapping their feet to Bury's samba band Bloco Ashe who provided the entertainment in the morning session.

Then Greater Manchester Police Band took over to entertain guests in the afternoon.

Farnworth and Walkden Band kept shoppers entertained with the morning slot in St John's Square, The Rock before Tottington Public Band took to the stage in the afternoon.

For a totally alternative performance venue, Middleton Youth Band took the platform at East Lancashire Railway Station.

On the day there was also performances from Derby High School Band, Bury Catholic Preparatory Choir, Hazlehurst Primary School Band and Bury Music Service at Market Square, Mill Gate.

Next year's event is already planned for Saturday June 17 and anyone wanting to take part should email jat999@tinyworld.co.uk or call 07796 376 562.
