ROYAL fever hit the streets of Bury recently as parties were held to mark the Queen's birthday.

Her majesty turned 90 in April but her official birthday was held earlier this month.

Cakes were baked, bunting was hung and everyone got into the spirit of things and street parties up and down the country.

In Rhine Close Tottington rain didn't hamper proceedings as the guests put their coats on and got their umbrellas out and embraced the British summertime.

The residents enjoyed the party and the local PCSO came down letting the children play in the police car.

While adults were kept entertained with a Pimm's cart made by Paul Kelly.

Cllr Judith Kelly who helped at the event said: "We do live on a great street where neighbours join in to keep it looking lovely, and the street party was an opportunity for us to invite family and friends to join in. We also invited people from a neighbouring street, who came along with their families. It really promoted our community spirit, and it shows how beneficial it is for neighbours to get together and work together to make where we live a better and friendlier place."

Also joining in with the festivities were Walshaw Hall and the Beeches Care Home, Tottington.

They enjoyed a garden party with homemade cakes, games, a singalong, tombola and a raffle.

Residents also wore brightly decorated crowns which they had made earlier in the week and staff entered in to the spirit of the event by dressing up and painting their faces.

Despite the Queen's birthday having already passed there's still time to join in the celebrations.

On Saturday July 9 at noon there's a community party being held at Moorside Community Centre and Library.

There will be fun, food and entertainment with a street party atmosphere.

Tickets cost £2 and must be bought in advance.

All proceeds will be divided between Bury Hospice and the Alzheimer's Society.
