“The mayor praised the work both charities do for the community.

“He came to visit us earlier in June and presented BIG volunteers with certificates during volunteering week so knew of the work we do.

“People came along and enjoyed tea and cakes and had a chance to reflect and remember those loved who lost their lives to suicide.

“BIG is a lifeline to people suffering mental health issue offering support on a practical level every week with the self-help groups and Samaritans with their 24/7 free phone number.

“By volunteers providing this support the vision is that less people die by suicide, so that’s why marking this day is very important.”
