A POLICE inspector was sacked over allegations he used or tried to use deception to secure money from colleagues and others.

Jon Percival, who lived in Bury, was dismissed on Friday after a gross misconduct panel concluded he had ‘breached the standards of professional behaviour’.

The inspector faced “allegations of deceiving or attempting to deceive certain individuals in an attempt to pay off debts as well as not disclosing the full extent of the debts to the GMP”.

The value of his £100,000 worth of shares in tour operator MyTravel was wiped out when the firm ran into financial difficulties.

The panel heard he resorted to borrowing from friends to cover the six-figure sum he owed.

The panel considered Mr Percival’s behaviour to be gross misconduct and he was sacked.

Deputy Chief Constable Ian Pilling said: “Inspector Jon Percival’s conduct fell below the required standard of professional behaviour expected from all employees at Greater Manchester Police.

All GMP officers and staff must conduct themselves and their duties with the highest professional standards, with honesty and integrity and Inspector Percival did not do this.”
