COUNCIL bosses confirmed it is their intention to reopen a damaged Summerseat bridge.
Part of Kay Street Bridge, in Summerseat, was destroyed during the Boxing Day floods in 2015, which wiped out the nearby Waterside pub.
Although the bridge has reopened to pedestrians, motorists are not yet allowed to drive over it.
During a Ramsbottom, Tottington and North Manor Township Forum meeting at Tottington Methodist Church, on Tuesday night, Cllr James Daly confirmed council chiefs had every intention to reopen the bridge.
He said: “The intention is there to reopen the bridge to motorists and so is the funding.
“However due to legal battles with the former owners of the Waterside pub, it will not reopen until these are resolved.”
Cllr Dorothy Gunther added: “I live in Summerseat and currently residents are able to use one road in and out of the village. Railway Street isn’t the safest of roads and it’s no secret that I don’t feel safe driving along it. Summerseat needs the bridge reopening.”
