MEET the Masterchefs of the future.

The youngsters developed a range of new and exciting cooking skills during a college’s after-school catering club.

Year Seven to Year 11 pupils from schools across Bury, Bolton, Manchester and Lancashire learnt how to make tasty starters, mains and desserts during Bury College’s very own ‘Junior Chef Club’.

Would-be masterchefs were invited to the college’s Woodbury Campus where they were given the opportunity to use the industry standard kitchen and equipment to develop new skills and techniques.

The after-school club was aimed at those pupils interested in working within the catering industry and pupils learnt how to cook healthy and delicious dishes over a five week period.

Alex Bradshaw, aged 11, from Canon Slade School in Bolton, said he had thoroughly enjoyed the special cookery event.

Alex said: “I have really enjoyed the sessions and have cooked a range of different things including shortbreads, mince pies, scones and pizzas.

“I have made lots of new friends and have very much liked using the Bury College facilities.”

David Flynn, Bury College’s bakery assessor, added that the sessions had been a huge success and helped to introduce youngsters to the joys of cookery.

Mr Flynn said: “The Junior Chef Club sessions have been absolutely wonderful and have given the pupils an insight into baking different pastries and introduced them to the catering industry.”
