PRIMARY schools are invited to bid for funding to help young people boost their self-esteem and resilience.

One Goal, an educational company backed by pop star Shakira, works with schools in Bury.

It has put forward £30,000 to support 20 primary school this summer term to help improve behaviour within classrooms, reducing school exclusions and boosting attendance levels. The work of One Goal’s children’s mentors also supports a school’s mental health and wellbeing strategy, as well as helping further enhance other curriculum areas, including personal, social and health education, British values, and spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Adam Eccleston, One Goal’s managing director, said: “We’ve launched this funding opportunity to help primary school children within our community to flourish through the tailored support of a One Goal programme delivered by a specialist children’s mentor.

“Our support enables children to increase attainment, better manage emotions, improve self-control, build personal resilience and strengthen their self-esteem and confidence.”

In a letter, one of the borough’s school told One Goal: “Prior to One Goal working in school we had a significant amount of low level disruption which has been removed resulting in pupils being more focussed on the classwork and an eradication of fixed term exclusion.”

Applications are invited to the fund by February 28. Any school interested in finding out more should contact One Goal on 0808 14 14 611 or email info@one-goal.co.uk.
